JOSÉ SHEBATA [SHIBATA]
"Shebata" was José T. Shibata, the son of Don Daichiro and Doña Taki Shibata. His birth name is not known. He was baptized by Padre Palomo and given the name José. On the day mentioned, he was married to Vicenta Herrero y Cruz, the daughter of Don José Herrero y Aguon and granddaughter of the former Spanish Governor of Guam, José de Ganga Herrero. Judicial records indicate that he exchanged property with Doña Rufina Quitugua y Pangelinan in 1901, then in 1905 he willed a house on the corner of Pazo St. and General Terrero St. to his wife, Vicenta Herrero y Cruz and the children of Manuel [Albert Percy Manley] and Asuncíon Rosendo y Herrero. The provisions of the will stated that he would be buried a Catholic, that the shop always retain the name of Shibata and that in case of the death of the heirs the patrimony would not happen to any other "in-law" [or person related by marriage not blood]. He also willed to his mother 500 gold pesos to be paid out in installments.
